Fall Foliage Celebration -- Waterville Valley, NH

A weekend of fun family events will include kids’ games, pumpkin painting, and a pie-eating contest. For those looking for a deal, there will be merchant tent sales and the annual ski and snowboard swap. On Saturday a band will perform from the gazebo, from 1 to 4 p.m.
On Sunday, the Fall Foliage Beer Garden will present samples of fall brews in the center of Town Square accompanied by live music and a corn hole tourney starting at noon. At 1:30 p.m. a Stein Holding Competition will decide who is the strongest of them all. Live music from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Lakes Region Barrel Tasting Weekend -- Meredith, NH

Visit any of all of six participating wineries and taste young wines directly from the oak and stainless steel barrels that are used to ferment and age the varietals. Visitors will be able to meet the wine makers, tour the facilities, and learn about wine making. Many of the wineries will be hosting other local vendors during the event, and offering special foods and wine-related items to guests. Participating wineries are Coffin Cellars, Gilmanton Winery, Sap House Meadery, Haunting Whisper Vineyards, Hermit Woods Winery, and Newfound Lake Vineyards. This round--trip train excursion departs from 154 Main Street, Meredith, at 11 a.m. and heads north towards the White Mountains for a four-hour trip. This route is traveled only during fall foliage season. You will pass Lake Waukewan and Lake Winona, follow along and over the Pemigewasset River from Ashland to Plymouth with station stops along the way. At the Common Man Inn in Plymouth the passengers will be served a hot lunch. On your return a stop in Ashland Station at the gateway to Squam Lake better know as On Golden Pond.
