It’s not surprising that, in the winter wonderland that makes up the Androscoggin Valley, NH, you’d have several options for skiing. Snow comes early and stays late, making it the perfect place for winter sports enthusiasts. At the Black Mountain ski resort, which has been around since 1935, there are 143 acres of ski-able terrain on 45 trails on a mountain with an elevation of 2,350 feet. Over at Bretton Woods Ski Resort, the state’s largest ski area, there are 62 trails, 35 glades and two terrain parks for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities. Abenaki ski area is a community-owned ski area open since 1936. Seven trails -- ranging from easy to black-diamond -- offer relaxed skiing, including night skiing. Area has glades and a terrain park, friendly workers, and a small rustic lodge. Abenaki is relaxed, uncrowded, with a small-town feel. Nice and low-key for families and kids.

Classic ski area with trails for all abilities, and glades for experts. It is the sister ski area to Wildcat Mountain. The Abenaki terrain park is on Bear Peak. Easily reached from the Abenaki lift mid-station. Attitash has an excellent ski and snowboard school. Back country glades are not maintained or patrolled; these areas are recommended only for expert skiers. Ski and snowboard rentals. Plenty of restaurants and bars at the two base areas and in Mount Washington Valley. The Attitash Grand Summit Hotel has luxury lodging and a dynamic after-ski scene. Attitash’s Nor’Easter Mountain Coaster is 4,000 feet of banked curves down the mountainside. The Coaster is open when resort is in winter operation.

At 4,080 feet, the mountain is the highest ski area summit in New Hampshire – and it has the state’s longest vertical drop, too, at 2,180 feet. The terrain parks are equally exciting, ranging from a learning/beginner area to a park with medium-size jumps and features and finally the Tossup terrain, with large features and big air-inspired hits. Skiing and Snowboarding -- Gunstock, with beautiful views overlooking lake Winnipesaukee, is the major ski mountain in New Hampshire closest to Boston, with easy access from I-93 and I-95. The 202-2021 season brings more snow tubing runs and a new carpet lift. Thirty groomed Nordic trails also are used for snowshoeing, fat biking, skijoring; night skiing. Private and group lessons ski and snowboard lessons are offered to adults and kids. All lessons must be booked online in advance.
