Artists bring their best efforts to capturing the grandeur of New Hampshire

You might not think visual artists would dare to depict the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire in paint and pencil; the magnificence of the subject is so overwhelming. Even so, artist’s images of the grandeur of the Granite State are on display almost everywhere you visit. Ask your innkeeper or host to spin out stories of mountain excursions, the lives and times of loggers; the daily trappings of fishing families on lakes and sea. You’ll see plenty of images of the Old Man in the Mountain, a rocky profile created by nature that now lives on only on canvas, paper and in memory.

Inn owners populate walls, niches with original art from the region

Snugly situated in New Hampshire’s magnificent White Mountains, the Sugar Hill Inn is a romantic getaway noted for fine dining, stylish rooms and cottages – and a growing collection of original art. No mass-produced prints here, the inn owners, since they purchased the inn a dozen years ago, have been collecting art from all over the Northeast, including works from artists who live in Sugar Hill and neighboring towns. So guests in the Forest View Cottage will see the spectacular autumn leaves in an original oil by Sabina; Garden Cottage guests will enjoy Iosif Derecichel’s spectacular birches; Nickerson Suite guests will be soothed by a bucolic scene painted by Yvon Lenieux. Mountain views and original art: a winning combination for the inn’s guests.
