New Hampshire's maple producers are gearing up for late-winter visitors
Maple sugar season showcases New England's historic industry and sweetest treat. As late winter begins to turn the corner into early spring, sap in New England's sugar maples begins to run and the maple sugar industry gears up for action. Visitors head to northern New England to enjoy the serene winter woods in weather that is chilly but not frigid; to watch maple sugar being produced with either historic or modern methods; and to shop for maple treats -- bottled, baked, or compressed into sugary nuggets. Each year, the New Hampshire maple industry produces close to 90,000 gallons of maple syrup. For more information see www.nhmapleproducers.com or call 603-225-3757. During sugaring season, many sugarhouses invited the public to see the syrup-making process; some producers offer fun educational programs for visitors of all ages, toddle through adult.
